As a Cedar Rapids resident was recently given a suspended 10 year prison sentence for a December 10, 2020 Washington County incident, another Cedar Rapids resident involved was taken into custody Wednesday.
KCII previously reported that 27-year-old Chase Robert Kelley and 24-year-old Destiny Jean Hines were wanted on class D felony charges of conspiracy to commit a non-forcible felony, third-degree burglary, second-degree criminal mischief, and two counts of second-degree theft; as well as possession of burglar’s tools, an aggravated misdemeanor.
Through a plea agreement, five-year prison sentences for third-degree burglary, conspiracy to commit a non-forcible felony, and second-degree theft were suspended for Kelley to be placed on five years probation. Sentences for the first two counts are to be served consecutively, and as a special condition of the probation he must successfully complete the Hope Ministries Substance Abuse Program in Des Moines. Fines were also suspended, and the other charges were dismissed.
The Washington County Communications Center received a report on Wednesday that Hines was in custody at the Iowa Correctional Institution for Women in Mitchellville. She is wanted on the previously mentioned charges as well as failure to appear for a pretrial conference on a charge of possession of methamphetamine first offense, a serious misdemeanor. Total bond is $28,000 cash only, and a detainer was placed. KCII will bring you more information as it becomes official.
