census-2020

After being delayed several months because of the pandemic, the 2020 Census Data for Iowa was released Thursday.

Washington County saw a 4% increase in population from 21,704 in 2010 to 22,565 in 2020. This is a smaller increase than from 2000 to 2010 in which the county saw a 5% increase. Population that is 18 years and older in the county is 17,073, or 75.7%. The county has 93.1% of its housing units occupied, or 8,916 of 9,573. Iowa saw a 4.7% increase to 3,190,369. The Iowa Legislature will use the 2020 Census data in the upcoming redistricting process as well as county redistricting commissions. The population counts will also determine how hundreds of billions of dollars of funding is allocated to communities across the country.
