The top 10 countdown of the best sports stories from the 2020-21 academic year continues today with number six on our countdown. The sixth best Washington story takes us to the pitch to highlight a record breaking soccer season.
Zac Stout missed out on his junior season due to the pandemic, but the senior made up for lost time this spring by becoming the season and career scoring leader in school history. The 6’4’’ Stout found the back of the net 28 times this year to cap off 33 for his illustrious career. He passed Mason Quigley on the all time scoring list on May 10th with his 31st goal in a 3-0 win over Mount Pleasant. The walking hat-trick had many three goal performances throughout the season including on his birthday in a 5-1 victory over Burlington on April 12th. The senior anchored a Demon team that matched a program record with nine wins. They finished 9-6 overall and 7-3 in the Southeast Conference to place third in the league.
Stout will continue his soccer career this fall playing for Black Hawk College in Moline, Illinois. Check back in Monday for number five on our countdown when we look at a football team that made a statement last fall.
