waco-2

While the entire state starts up the football season next week, a few area teams will kick off their campaign tonight in week zero action. WACO will hit the home gridiron for a non-district game against Twin Cedars.

Chad Edeker enters his 21st season as the head man for the Warriors and his squad will look to improve off of a 3-5 record in 2020. Much of the same faces will be back with 13 of the 16 starters returning in 8-player district 6. Jonah Clark and Simeon Reichenbach return in the backfield with a combined 512 rushing yards and three scores last season. With the loss of Will Edeker, the quarterback spot will be up for grabs with Reichenbach and Isaac Oswald battling for reps. The Sabers were 0-6 last year with the defense being a problem giving up 59 points a game. Turnover is plentiful with this group losing their quarterback, top rusher, top receiver, and leading tackler to graduation. Dallas Clark returns with 517 total yards and four scores in 2020.

The season kicks off at 7 p.m. tonight in Wayland.
