The 2021 fall season officially kicked off for a few area volleyball teams on Monday in Wayland when WACO hosted a tournament.

Sigourney had the best area finish by placing third out of eight teams with a 2-2 record. The Savages were swept by No. 8 (3A) West Burlington (21-9, 21-10) and lost a three set match with Centerville (15-21, 21-15, 15-10). The wins came against Van Buren (21-15, 16-21, 15-6) and WACO in the third place match (24-26, 25-18, 15-10). 

The host Warriors also went 2-2 by finishing fourth. In addition to falling to the Savages, WACO lost a three set match with Wapello (21-19, 16-21, 16-14), but swept Columbus Community (21-11, 21-10) and Pekin (21-15, 21-18). Grace Coble led the way on the day with 54 assists and fellow returner Ellah Kissell recorded 33 kills. Emma Wagler registered seven blocks and Jocelyn Fulton dug out 35 balls. 

Columbus was on the short end of all three matches also falling to Wapello (21-14, 21-12) and Pekin (21-17, 19-21, 15-8). 

West Burlington defeated Wapello in the championship match for the tournament crown.
