The Nick Ehret era officially kicks off for the Washington Demon football team tonight when they travel to historic Bracewell Stadium to face Burlington in week one action.

The Demons had a memorable 2020 season where they finished 8-1, went undefeated in the regular season, and captured their first district crown in seven years. Ethan Patterson will take over the reigns at quarterback after a sophomore season where he amassed 335 total yards and six touchdowns in a limited role. Leading tackler Lucas Kroll will look to lead a defense that surrendered just 16 points a night last fall.

Burlington bumped up to 4A this year and they are coming off of a 1-5 campaign. Quarterback Kanyae Baker is their top returner with 379 total yards and three scores. Their top three tacklers are back led by Nolan Simpson with his 29. These two teams met up last year with Washington taking care of business 69-0. Coach Ehret previews the night ahead. “They are returning a lot of their skill guys and they are big upfront. They run the triple option so it is an offense you don’t see very often. We have to be disciplined defensively otherwise you can run into some problems. They have three backs that are really athletic.”

The season starts up at 7:30 p.m. tonight in Burlington. Listen to the game on FM 106.1 KCII starting at 7 p.m. Tune into the Football Friday Preview Show at 6 p.m. for a full breakdown of all the games in Southeast Iowa.
