Several Washington County families were honored with century or heritage farm designations at this year’s Iowa State Fair.

The Century and Heritage Farm program celebrates farms that have been owned by the same families for 100 and 150 years, respectively. This year century designations were given to Randy and Linda Finke of Crawfordsville, JS Long Creek Farms, LLC of Crawfordsville, Ronald Malichky of Kalona, and Richard and JoAnn Stout of Washington. Heritage designations were also given to the Stouts, and Donald Davison of Wayland, Wilma Kleese Wright of Keota, and Jeanne Malichky of Riverside. Recipients from 2020 were also recognized, which included Richard Stout, Marty and Sheri Plecker of Ainsworth, and LeAnna and Bruce Watson of Washington. The program is sponsored by the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship and the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation. Since the program began in 1976 there have been 224 century farms and 34 heritage farms recognized in Washington County.
