Residents in the KCII-listening area have been announced as winners in Iowa State Fair contests.
Coming out of the miniature horses contest, Mason Wiles from Wellman took home first and second place in many categories including American Miniature Horse Registry amateur halter gelding and western country pleasure driving. Tammy Lowe of Crawfordsville also made a big impact with first and second place finishes in AMHR aged, youth halter, multi-color stallion and model gelding, youth showmanship and youth jumper. Callie Mae Brink of Riverside finished second in the boer goats commercial breeding does category. Joining Brink from Riverside is Avery Shalla for top place finishes in market goat and lightweight, heavyweight and open market wether. BLAC Diamond Boer Goats out of Ainsworth made an impact in seven categories in the boer goats contest including buck kid, doe kid and yearling doe.
Taking first place finishes in the beef simmental contest were Sweeting Family Cattle of Riverside and Ford Cattle Company of West Chester. Iris Peterson of Wayland finished the state fair with three second place finishes in the beef salers contest. The Van Roekel Family of Wellman finished second for premier exhibitor and fall ewe lamb in the sheep: all other meat breeds competition. In the agriculture and horticulture vegetable crops competition, the Van Roekels took second for mini ornamental white pumpkin and first for plate of mixed vegetables. David Miller of Riverside took first for longest gourd and squash type pumpkin and second for onions and squash. Keep listening to KCII for more local winners from the Iowa State Fair.
