The goose egg in the loss column continued on Friday for the WACO football team when they traveled to Victor to beat HLV 41-13 in a battle of the Warriors.
After a scoreless first quarter, WACO exploded for five touchdowns in the second headlined by a pair of rushing scores and a 25-yard field goal from Simeon Reichenbach. Drew Diers found the end zone on a 13 yard run and had a house call on a 50 yard interception return right before the break for a 35-0 advantage. HLV (1-2) had a couple late scores in the fourth, but an 11-yard touchdown run by Isaac Oswald was the cherry on top of the WACO road victory. Eight different players carried the rock multiple times for 261 rushing yards led by Reichenbach with 17 attempts for 75 yards and the two end zone trips. The defense forced six turnovers with fumble recoveries by Jonah Clark, Tyler Sutton, and Colton Leichty and interceptions from Diers, Reichenbach, and Mason Miller. Miller paced the team with five solo tackles.
HLV recorded 275 total yards to WACO’s 261, but head coach Chad Edeker says that proves the field position battle was in their favor all night. “We caused four turnovers in the second quarter with two picks and two fumble recoveries. Both fumble recoveries were deep in their territory and one of the interceptions by Simeon was returned inside their 20 so we had a short field again. Winning the field position battle has been a trend for our team so far this season.”
The Warriors improve to 3-0 and return home Friday against English Valleys (2-0).
