The Washington-area skies will be full of traffic this Sunday for the Washington Municipal Airport’s Fly-In Breakfast.
This is the first Fly-In Breakfast since 2019, and was pushed back this year from the first weekend in June to be the copilot of their Flightline Live concert event being held the night before. Pilots around southeast Iowa are invited to fly into the airport Sunday for free breakfast and the community is encouraged to come have breakfast as well and see the airport’s facilities and all the aircraft that come in. Airport Commission Chair Kevin Erpelding says they’ve seen a variety of aircraft attend this event, including medical helicopters for families to get a close-up look, “You’ll be able to walk around on the ramp, we just ask everybody [to] be aware if somebody is trying to start a plane or moving a plane but yeah you’ll be able to move about the ramp and see the different aircraft. There will be some vintage ones and some newer ones, but a lot of the pilots will have their aircraft out so you can look at it and feel free to talk to any of the pilots about them. They like showing off their aircraft and everything.”
The breakfast is $7 for adults and $3 for kids five-10 with those under five served for free. The meal includes pancakes and sausages and lasts from 7-11 a.m. Erpelding says some of this year’s proceeds will go toward an outdoor seating area in honor of the late Lynn Harvey, pilot and father of current commission member Joe Harvey.
