In a battle of Southeast Iowa Super Conference positioning, the Columbus Community volleyball team picked up a league win over Pekin (2-4) last night in a match that went the distance.

The Panthers struck first in Columbus Junction by taking the first set 25-23, only to have the Wildcats snatch the next two 25-22 and 25-15. A 25-18 Pekin victory in set four sent the match to a decisive fifth where Columbus did just enough for the 15-12 win. Victoria Howell and Lily Coil were a two-headed monster offensively with 15 and 13 kills, respectively. Sera Vela managed 22 assists, Isabelle Lagunas had five digs, and the team was successful on 90 of 105 serves with 17 aces.

Columbus improves to 2-10 and they travel to Wapello (11-7) tomorrow.
