The top five ranked Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk boys and girls cross country teams will compete today with 18 other schools at Monticello meet.

The Mid-Prairie girls come into the event fresh off of their team title at the Central College Invitational last week. Mid-Prairie had a team score of 21 en route to the title with Danielle Hostetler winning the individual championship in a time of 18:53. All seven members of the Mid-Prairie line-up placed in the top 13 with Sydney Yoder runner-up, Jaden Yoder fifth, Phoebe Shetler sixth, Abby Fleming seventh, Amara Jones 12th and Annika Poll 13th. Mid-Prairie is ranked No. 1 again this week in class 2A in the latest poll from the Iowa Track and Field Coaches Association. In the individual ratings, Hostetler remains No. 1 with Sydney Yoder ninth, Mitzi Evans 12th, Jaden Yoder 20th, and Phoebe Shetler 21st.

The Golden Hawk boys were runners-up at Central College last Saturday with a team score of 54 points. They were led by Thaddeus Shetler’s third place finish in 17:11. Other Golden Hawks included Chandler Hershberger fourth, Emmett Swartzentruber 12th, Preston Yutzy 14th, Sam Yoder 21st, Robert Nagy 22nd and Jordan Stock 26th. The Hawks are ranked No. 5 this week in class 2A with Shetler 11th and Hershberger 29th.

Joining the Golden Hawks at the meet today are Anamosa, No. 12 in 3A Davenport Assumption, Dyersville Beckman, No. 5 in 1A Bellevue, Calamus-Wheatland, Camanche, No. 18 in 1A Cascade, No. 14 in 3A Center Point Urbana, East Dubuque, Easton Valley, No. 4 in 2A Jesup, No. 3 in 1A Maquoketa Valley, No. 9 in 1A North Linn, Springville, No. 3 in 2A Tipton, No. 8 in 3A Western Dubuque, Wilton and the homestanding No. 6 in 2A Panthers. There are 13 ranked runners in the boys field and nine on the girls side. Action starts at 9a.m. and continues through the day in Monticello.
