As the 2020 census has shown Iowa’s Hispanic population about tripled in the last three decades, the Wellman-Scofield Public Library is gearing up to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month.

Starting Wednesday, September 15th, the library will debut a Spanish section in the library. A display will be set up for the new collection of books with different decorations and activities for kids to participate in. Wellman-Scofield Library Director Erin Campbell explains some of the different books that will be in the Spanish collection, “We have quite a variety. We got a lot of children’s books. We don’t have all of them yet but we’re trying to get all of the Harry Potter books in Spanish. We’re trying to get a few for all ages just to start out with.”

Campbell added that the library has been gathering books for the collection for the last few months and she is very excited to have the opportunity to learn more of her non-native language. The Hispanic Heritage Month display will be up until October 15th.
