There has been no shortage of action for the Sigourney volleyball team the last week with competition in three of the last four days.
On Saturday they traveled to North Mahaska for a tournament and went 3-2 with losses to HLV (15-21, 21-19, 13-15) and New London (9-21, 10-21), but defeated Pleasantville (21-15, 21-19), Lynnville-Sully (21-13, 13-21, 15-11), and PCM (10-21, 21-16, 15-8).
The Savages had an area matchup on Monday with a rivalry showdown against Keota on the road and won in four sets. Set scores included 25-12, 25-11, 22-25, and 25-18. Brookelynn Hemsley recorded 31 assists in the win, Amiya Smallwood had 11 kills, Raegan Rozenboom eight kills, Madelynn Hornback 14 digs, and the team had an 88% serve efficiency. Keota was led by Taylor Kindred with six kills, Macie McDonald had seven assists, and the junior also registered 20 digs. The Eagles dropped to 5-5 after the loss.
The final match of the week was last night with Sigourney when they hosted Belle Plaine and lost in straight sets. The Plainsmen rose victoriously with set wins of 25-18, 25-20, and 25-22. Rozenboom finished with seven kills while Hemsley had 22 assists and nine digs.
The Savages are now 11-8 overall and 4-1 in South Iowa Cedar League play.
