The Iowa City Kickers Complex is hosting the Clear Creek Amana Classic tonight and along with it, the Mid-Prairie, Columbus, WACO and Winfield-Mt. Union cross country teams.

The Mid-Prairie boys and girls runners have been off since the Heartland Classic at Central College in Pella September 18th. In the meet that featured more than 1,700 participants from five different states, the Golden Hawk girls finished fifth as a team led by a fourth place individual finish from sophomore Danielle Hostetler. The Golden Hawk boys were 33rd in the team standings with Thaddeus Shetler first to finish in 71st place. The Mid-Prairie girls enter the race ranked No. 1 in class 2A, holding the top spot in the poll all season. The top five runners in their varsity lineup are ranked led by Hostetler at No. 1 followed by Sydney Yoder No. 9, Jaden Yoder No. 17, Phoebe Shetler No. 18 and Mitzi Evans No. 23. The Mid-Prairie boys are ranked No. 5 as a team in 2A with Shetler checking in at No. 6 individually.

The Columbus Wildcats will be in Iowa City tonight. They were last on the course Tuesday at Mt. Pleasant where the Wildcat boys won their second consecutive meet, taking the small school division crown with a score of 37 points, led by Freddy Vergara’s runner-up finish. The Columbus girls did not have a team score. They were led by Ariana Vergara in fourth. The Columbus boys check in at No. 15 in this week’s class 1A team rankings. The Wildcats have individual representative Freddy Vergara at No. 21 in the standings.

WACO also ran last Tuesday in Mt. Pleasant. The Warrior boys were seventh as a team with Wyatt Dennis 11th individually. The WACO girls did not have a team score but Hannah Dennis led the way with an individual top 10, finishing in 10th.

The Winfield-Mt. Union Wolves last meet was also at Mt. Pleasant. The WMU boys were sixth in the team standings with Gabe Hemsworth leading the way in sixth place. There was no team score for the Lady Wolves with Olivia Martinez’ 27th place finish pacing the team.

These four area schools will be joined by Calamus Wheatland, Cedar Rapids Xavier, HLV, Louisa-Muscatine, Montezuma, South Tama, Vinton Shellsburg and the host Clippers. Varsity races begin at 5p.m. and continue into the evening in Iowa City.
