The finals of the Southeast Iowa Super Conference volleyball tournament was held at Southeastern Community College in Burlington on Saturday and Winfield-Mt. Union was eliminated in the quarterfinals.
The Wolves cracked the top two at Thursday’s Louisa-Muscatine pool play to advance to Saturday’s final eight and they were slotted into a tall task with No. 1 Burlington Notre Dame in the first round. The Nikes made it a short evening for WMU with a two-set sweep of 25-14 and 25-21. Gabby Deery recorded 13 kills for the Nikes. The Wolves were led by Melina Oepping with five kills and two blocks, Keely Malone had nine assists, Keetyn Townsley registered 15 digs, and Carlee Sloan was eight of eight serving with one ace.
Notre Dame would go on to beat New London and Holy Trinity to capture the tournament crown. WMU is now 14-8 overall and travels to Kalona to battle Hillcrest Academy tomorrow.
