The toughest road test of the year was passed with flying colors by the Sigourney-Keota football team Friday when the No. 4 Cobras invaded Eagle Lane and triumphed over No. 6 Pella Christian 20-13.
Both defenses flexed their muscles in the first half by holding the high scoring opposition to one touchdown in the opening 24 minutes for a 7-7 tie at the break. Cade Molyneux tallied that rushing score for S-K and the senior reached the end zone two more times with one on a three yard touchdown run in the third for a 14-13 advantage and the other that proved to be the game winner on a 4th and Goal from the one with eight minutes left. Up 20-13, a couple stops on the defensive side in crunch time sealed the class 1A district win for S-K.
The Cobras are 4-0 in one possession games in the last two years and head coach Jared Jensen tells KCII Sports he knows his guys will produce in money time. “The kids are full of confidence, us coaches have full confidence in them, and they have confidence in us as coaches. All of that comes full circle and when you don’t have people second guessing what you are trying to do that translates to the fourth quarter knowing that the game is yours. We knew this would be a four quarter battle and we just had to find a way to win each quarter. We did that and I am so proud of our guys.” Molyneux did Molyneux things toting the rock 39 times for 194 yards and the three scores. Colten Clarahan managed 58 rushing yards on 13 carries. The Cobra defense held the Eagles (4-1) to 258 yards of total offense with Cade Streigle managing 5.5 tackles. Cole Kindred recovered a fumble and Levi Crawford had an interception for the unit.
S-K stays unbeaten at 5-0 and they return home Friday hosting Cardinal (5-0).
