The buzz continues to build around the Mid-Prairie volleyball program as the Hawks have spent the fall breaking streaks and building momentum. The Golden Hawks broke down several walls at once in Wellman Tuesday with a sweep of their rival Iowa City Regina on “Pink Out” Night in Tim Grady Gymnasium. Mid-Prairie broke out the brooms on the Regals by scores of 25-15, 25-18 and 25-19. After the match, Mid-Prairie junior setter Landry Pacha talked about what has the Hawks playing well and the feeling around the program. “Tempo is important for us so that I can run good sets, quick sets. They did great with getting me the ball tonight. If we can do things fast it takes the other team a while to catch up, leaves more spaces for us to hit the ball and the chance to hit it harder. This year our back row has great freshman. We have an awesome group of middles. Behla Schmidt and Ella Groenewold do amazing and Maddie Nonnenmann on the right side does great out there. On the last point, I was ready up there. I told myself ‘I’m going to block this’ and I did, so it was good. It feels good, we haven’t beaten them for a while and we have a winning streak.”
The match victory over their rivals from Iowa City is the first for the Golden Hawks in the series since 2014, snapping a string of 11 consecutive match losses to the Regals. It’s Mid-Prairie’s third win over Regina in their last 25 tries. The victory is also the third straight River Valley Conference best-of-five match win for Mid-Prairie, marking their longest such streak in 15 seasons. It moves Mid-Prairie back to .500 in the River Valley at 3-3, the latest in the season they have been at that mark or better in the conference during that same period. Mid-Prairie has an overall record of 8-5 after the win, the latest in a season they have had a winning mark since 2016. The Golden Hawks are back on the court tomorrow in conference play when they travel to Tipton.
