Showing out in front of the home crowd was the goal and showing out is exactly what the Washington cross country teams accomplished on Tuesday. In their lone home meet of the year at Washington Golf and Country Club, the Demon boys and girls swept the competition with a pair of first place team finishes.
The girls started the evening strong by having six runners in the top 10 with a total of 29 points to blow out second place Fairfield with 82. In his final race at home, senior Lance Sobaski went out a winner with a first place run of 16:52. Sophomore teammate Micah Rees was all alone in second place with a time of 17:27. The sophomore was pleased with his run. “I went out really hard and knew I had to push myself to the finish. I knew I wanted to get second and I was in that position after a mile. Not knowing where the person behind me was meant I needed to keep going. I wanted to do well on the home course and celebrate with my teammates.” Other scored runs included Drew Horak in 10th (18:58), Tyler Alderton 13th (19:13), and Cameron Vongpanya 18th (19:39).
