Week six of the Iowa high school football season is here and Washington returns home to Case Field for a district match against Solon.
These two teams have faced off 11 times since 2010 with the Spartans winning eight of them, but Washington snagged rivalry bragging rights last year with a 33-18 victory. In order to make it two in a row in the series, the Demons will need to play near perfect ball against the #3 Spartans. Solon sits at 5-0 and are beating teams by an average of 40 points including handling West Burlington 56-0 last week. Brett White paces a defense with 32 tackles for a unit that surrenders just 11 points a game and has forced 12 turnovers. Quarterback Blake Timmons has accounted for 1,159 yards of total offense with 15 touchdowns. The 1-4 Demons traveled to Grinnell last week to start up district play and fell 35-14.
Washington Head Coach Nick Ehret tells KCII Sports what makes Solon a top tier program every year. “They are very well coached and sound in what they do. They always have great athletes and are big upfront so they are always tough. It is a program that you are fortunate to compete against and hoping that we can get our program to that level every year. We are looking forward to the challenge on Friday.”
The action begins at 7:30 p.m. tonight at Case Field and listen to the live play-by-play on FM 106.1. Our coverage begins at 6 p.m. with the KCII Football Friday Preview Show and we take over from Washington at 7 p.m.
