As the fall season continues to show its colors in different regions of the state, southeast Iowa is still waiting for peak fall season.
The second fall color report for southeast Iowa was released by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources on October 1st. Much of the landscape is still green with cottonwood, walnut, silver maple and elm trees starting to show some yellow and brown. Poison ivy, dogwood, white ash, and sumac are starting to show reds and a little purple. Peak season for color change in southeast Iowa is projected to be between October 20th-27th. According to the DNR, northeast Iowa is in full color season with the expected peak to be this weekend.
