A Henry County rivalry with playoff positioning is on the line in Winfield tonight when the Wolves welcome WACO for a battle on the gridiron. 

The No. 7 Warriors are a perfect 7-0, have clinched at least a share of the 8-player district 6 crown with a 5-0 mark, and a win tonight could wrap up the one seed for the postseason that is set to start in two weeks. The Warrior defensive unit has kept oppositions in check by allowing just 11 points a game led by Drew Diers’ 36 tackles and the team’s 24 takeaways. Simeon Reichenbach has reached pay dirt 14 times on 922 rushing yards. 

Winfield-Mt. Union could clinch a playoff spot with a win, as they sit at 4-1 overall and 3-1 in the league. The top three from the district will make the playoffs with English Valleys at 4-1 and New London, Lone Tree, and Iowa Valley are tied for fourth with a 1-3 mark. Cam Buffington and the offense will try to crack the code against the Warrior defense, as the sophomore has accounted for 1,722 total yards and 31 touchdowns. 

Warrior Head Coach Chad Edeker always looks forward to this game. “We have a lot of good memories in this series, but lately they have been getting the better of us. They have a ton of really good athletes that we will have to contain. We have to play well to win this game.”

WACO has won nine of the last 12 meetings dating back to 2007, but WMU took last year’s bout 42-28. The week seven matchup gets started at 7 p.m. tonight in Winfield.
