A former Wellman resident who was recently ordered to serve probation for violating his sex offender registration in Washington has now been sentenced to serve jail time in Iowa County.
Court records show that through a plea agreement 50-year-old Steven Michael Davis must spend 120 days in jail for one count of a sex offender verification violation, second or subquent offense, a class D felony, from a July 15th, 2020 incident. A second sex offender verification violation count was dismissed. Davis was convicted of lascivious acts with a child, a class C felony, in 2005, while a charge of second-degree sexual abuse, a class B felony, was dismissed in Iowa County. This September he was given a suspended five-year prison sentence for two counts of violating his sex offender registration, second or subsequent offense, in Washington County. He was ordered to serve a 2-5 year probation period and pay $3,000 in fines with a 15% surcharge. Washington County Attorney John Gish argued for prison time, but Judge John Wright adopted the Department of Corrections’ recommendation for probation.
