The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk volleyball team took the floor for the final time in the regular season Thursday when they traveled to Wilton for the championship bracket of the River Valley Conference tournament. Mid-Prairie advanced through Tuesday’s opening rounds by sweeping Iowa City Regina before falling to Monticello. The Golden Hawks were beaten in straight sets 21-16 and 21-6 by No. 7 in class 3A West Liberty. The first set was tight with the Hawks tied with the top 10 Comets at 16 before West Liberty scored the final five.
Mid-Prairie got six kills and two blocks from Ella Gronewold, 10 assists from Landry Pacha and eight digs from Dakota Mitchell. After the contest, Mid-Prairie head coach Sherry Evans talked about her team’s early play and how they will move forward. “Early on we didn’t have mistakes. We played fast. That’s our thing, sprint to your positions and beat the ball. We beat Tipton earlier this season in four sets, one of our late conference wins. They had a big upset over West Branch this week so, we have to be ready. We need to play us.”
The Hawks end the regular season at 15-13, 5-6 in the River Valley Conference and host Tipton Monday at Tim Grady Gymnasium to open up class 3A regional play.
