The final event of the 2021 cross country regular season for Hillcrest Academy, WACO, and Highland was Thursday at Big Hollow near Mediapolis.
In the girls race, Leah Bontrager won the second individual championship of her career, beating the field with a time of 22:45. Other Raven runners included Delaney Shaw 14th, Morgyn Nafziger 27th, and Julia Boller 29th.
WACO was led by McKenzie Vradenburg in 10th with a time of 25:53. Other Warriors included Justine Lynn 21st and Avery Waterhouse 22nd.
Highland’s Katelyn Waters was the lone competitor for the Huskies taking 20th in 27:36.
The WACO boys had the top area team finish, placing third of six teams with 80 points. The Warriors top runner was Wyatt Dennis in 8th with a time of 20:28. Other WACO athletes included Kieren Luitjens 10th, Mattias Luitjens 24th, Alijah Eremic 38th, and Deacon Bird 46th.
Hillcrest Academy was fifth with 95 points. The Ravens had the top area individual with Collin Miller placing fourth in a time of 19:32. Other Ravens included Micah Gerber 19th, Jesse Blossom 22nd, Jorge Canchola 23rd, Quang Huynh 43rd and Garrett Hurst 45th.
Highland did not post a team score. They were led individually by Carlos Valenzuela in 9th place with a time of 20:33. Brendan Schnoebelen was 40th
