The class 1A regional volleyball tournament kicks off tonight with Hillcrest Academy making the trip to Victor to take on the HLV Warriorettes. Hillcrest comes into the match with an overall record of 10-21 after going 3-1 at the Washington Tournament October 9th. The Ravens closed the regular season, getting wins over Highland, Sigourney and the Demons while taking a loss to WACO at the event. On the year, Hillcrest is led by 177 kills from Esther Hughes fourth in the north division of the SEISC, 388 assists by Norah Yoder, third most in the Superconference north, and Malia Yoder’s 271 digs fourth in the Superconference.
HLV is 11-17 this year, finishing 6-6 in the South Iowa Cedar League, seventh place. They were eliminated in the opening round of the SICL tournament by Iowa Valley in three sets on October 14th to close the regular season. On the year, the Warriorettes are led by 156 kills, seventh in the SICL, and 100 digs from Mckenzie Kempf, and 232 assists for Hailey Jack seventh in the South Iowa Cedar League. These two teams haven’t met since the 2013 regional tournament when the Ravens got the playoff sweep. Action starts tonight at 7p.m. in Victor.
