The formula was simple for the Highland football team on Friday, win and you are in the postseason. That is exactly what the Huskies were able to accomplish by picking up their third district victory of the season with a 49-14 triumph over Pekin (0-8).

Senior Night started out exactly as you would hope if you were a Huskie fan with the home squad marching right down the field for touchdowns in each of their first four drives and they never allowed Pekin back in it. Highland Head Coach Scott Morel tells KCII Sports it all started with the big boys upfront. “Our line started everything. It was great to get pretty much to full strength on the line and it showed. They did a great job sustaining blocks and were a big reason why we got out to a nice lead.” The defense held Pekin to three of 13 passing for just 32 yards.

Highland improves to 3-5 and snatch the four seed in class A district 5 with a 3-3 league mark. They start up the playoffs in the round of 32 at Lynnville-Sully (7-1) on Friday.
