It was the battle of Wildcats on Monday in a first round class 2A regional volleyball matchup with Durant ending Columbus Community’s season in a five set slugfest.

Durant came out dominant with a 25-10 win in set one, only to have Columbus battle back for a 25-21 victory in the second. The back and forth trend continued with the home squad taking the third 25-12 and the blue and white edging out the fourth 25-23. The fifth and decisive set belonged to Durant with a 15-3 triumph to advance in the tournament. The victorious Wildcats racked up 25 aces and Isabelle DeLong managed 17 kills. Columbus was led by Victoria Howell with eight kills and eight digs. Sera Vela recorded 14 assists and Lily Coil connected on 16 of 19 serves with seven aces. 

Durant improves to 11-24 and will play Wilton (33-2) today in a region 8 quarterfinal. Columbus closes the year 4-21.
