Four KCII area teams begin the playoffs this Friday under the lights.
In class 2A, the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks open the postseason at Dwight G. Sattler Field in Wellman. The Hawks earned their spot in the playoffs with a 5-3 overall record, finishing 4-1 and runners-up in class 2A district six. Mid-Prairie will welcome the Rebels of Northeast Goose Lake to Wellman. Northeast has a 4-4 overall record and finished 3-2, third place in class 2A district five. In class 1A, the Sigourney-Keota Cobras begin their march back to the dome with a familiar opponent. The Cobras are unbeaten on the season at 8-0, 5-0 champions of class 1A district six. They are ranked No. 3 in class 1A according to the Iowa Associated Press. SK is receiving one vote to be the No. 1 team in the state. Sigourney-Keota begins the postseason Friday when they welcome the Durant Wildcats to the Snake Pit. The Cobras and Wildcats met to open the season with the Snakes scoring a 23-20 win on the road. The Wildcats finished with a record of 2-6 and were 2-3, fourth place in class 1A district five. Kickoff is at 7p.m. in Sigourney.
The WACO Warriors start the playoffs Friday at Roth Field in Wayland. The Warriors are also unbeaten at 8-0 and were 6-0 champions of 8-man district six. WACO is ranked No. 5 in this week’s 8-man poll from the Iowa Associated Press. They open the postseason hosting 5-3 Edgewood-Colesburg. EDCO finished 5-2 in 8-man district five, taking third place. The Warriors kickoff their playoff game with the Vikings at 7p.m. Friday at Roth Field in Wayland.
The Highland Huskies are the lone KCII area team to begin the postseason on the road. Highland is 3-5 this year, and finished with a 3-3 record in class A, district five, fourth place. They travel to Lynnville-Sully to meet the Hawks who are 7-1, overall and were 6-0 champions of class A district six. They are ranked No. 9 in this week’s class A poll from the Iowa Associated Press. The Huskies and Hawks will kickoff at 7p.m. Friday at Lynnville-Sully High School.
