The snake pit in Sigourney will be rocking tonight when the S-K Cobras start up their class 1A playoff football run entertaining Durant.

It would be easy to think that the number three ranked 8-0 Cobras received a gimme win in the first round going up against a team that is 2-6 like the Wildcats, but that couldn’t be farther from the truth and evidence of this points to week one. These two squads met up in August and it took a fourth quarter comeback in the final minutes for S-K to pull out a 23-20 win. Five of Durant’s six losses were to playoff teams and no loss totaled more than 18 points. Their best win was an 18-7 triumph over postseason qualifier Mediapolis on October 8th. Nolan DeLong has kept them in games and has accounted for 94% of their rushing. The 6’1’’ 190 pound back has been a bruiser the last couple years and this fall has accounted for 1,480 yards on the ground and 17 touchdowns. The team averages 22 points a game and gives up 24.

The district 6 champs in the Cobras know a thing or two about running the rock as well and controlling the clock may be the best defense of DeLong. S-K is second in the state in rushing with 2,638 yards for the season led by Cade Molyneux with 1,602 yards and 21 touchdowns.

The battle of attrition will get underway at 7 p.m. this evening in Sigourney.
