It’s survive and advance time for the No. 5 WACO Warrior football team tonight when they welcome Edgewood-Colesburg to Wayland for a round of 32 bout in the 8-player playoffs.
The Warriors are a perfect 8-0, district 6 champs, and feeling rejuvenated after a bye week last Friday. Complimentary football made up the Warriors in the regular season by averaging almost plus three in the turnover margin every game, the offense taking advantage of those takeaways with 42 points a night, and the defense holding opponents to an average of 12 points. Simeon Reichenbach paces the offense with 1,035 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns while Drew Diers handles the other side with 42 tackles and the ballhawk that is Mason Miller has picked off seven passes.
The Vikings will make a two-plus hour trip south and they finished third in district five with a 5-3 overall mark. They are balanced offensively with Cael Funk passing for 734 yards and 13 touchdowns to just four interceptions. Funk and Ike Jones each have over 400 yards in the ground game and have a combined 15 scores. They have the ability to go off with 44 points a night compared to giving up 24. This is the first meeting between these two squads in the varsity bound era (since 2007).
