The 2021 campaign will wrap up tonight for the Washington Demon football team when they make a trip to West Burlington for a class 3A district 5 matchup.

The Demons sit at 3-5, but are winners of two straight including a hard fought 17-14 victory over Fairfield last week. Quarterback Ethan Patterson has seven touchdowns in the last two games and the junior as well as Tayven Stuart has jumpstarted the rushing game in the win streak. The offensive line has helped Patterson to have 517 yards on the ground with nine touchdowns to go along with 1,299 yards through the air. Stuart has carried the rock 85 times for 330 yards and one score. The Falcons have struggled this fall with a 0-8 record and last week fell to Keokuk 26-21. Caden Schwenker has completed 42% of his passes for 385 yards and Hayden Vandenberg leads the rushing department with six scores and 407 yards. They produce just 12 points a night and give up 38.

Patterson tells KCII Sports three wins to close the fall would be a boost for the program moving forward. “It would be nice to cap off a win for the seniors and it will be great experience for the young guys. The season hasn’t gone as we planned, but ending on three wins would be good momentum heading into the offseason.”

The season finale begins a half hour sooner than normal with a 7 p.m. kickoff. KCII’s Football Friday Preview Show has been bumped up to 5:30 p.m. and at 6:30 p.m. we will take over from West Burlington on FM 106.1.
