The final rankings have been released by the Associated Press for the 2021 Iowa high school football season with a pair of KCII area teams recognized.

In class 1A, Sigourney-Keota has remained in the poll all year, steadily climbing from No. 9 to their current spot at No. 3. The Cobras were champions of class 1A district 6 during the regular season and stand at a perfect 9-0 following a first round playoff win over Durant last week 34-8. The Cobras are also receiving one vote to be the top ranked team in this week’s poll. SK will be in second round playoff action tomorrow night at the Snake Pit when they host 7-2 and 12th ranked Waterloo Columbus. They eliminated the Sailors in the quarterfinal round of the 1A postseason a year ago to advance to the UNI-Dome.

In 8-man football, the WACO Warriors are represented in this week’s poll at No. 5. The Warriors are 9-0. They were undefeated champions of 8-man district six during the regular season. They escaped a scare in the first round of the playoffs last Friday, beating visiting Edgewood-Colesburg 39-36 at Roth Field in Wayland on a Simeon Reichenbach field goal in the game’s last 10 seconds. This week, the Warriors travel west to face 7-2 Martensdale-St. Mary’s in the second round at Blue Devil Stadium. You can hear the Warriors live on FM 106.1 and KCIIradio.com tomorrow night, beginning with the Washington HyVee pregame show at 6:30 and kickoff at 7p.m.
