Southeast Iowa is starting to see a change in the landscape as more trees begin to show their colors.

The fifth fall color report released by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources states that the overall view of the landscape is still mostly green but that should change this coming week. Hickory, elm, cottonwood, and sugar maple trees are showing some yellow and brown. White ash is showing some purple and urban maple is showing a few brighter reds and oranges.  Sumac, Virginia creeper, and poison ivy are showing some reds as well with bur and swamp white starting to show a little color. There is still plenty of fall color to enjoy in northeast Iowa.  Oak trees are beginning to turn to reds, yellows and bronze.  Many maple trees are still holding onto color providing orange, gold and red colors. Peak viewing for southeast Iowa is predicted between now and November 8th.
