Hillcrest Academy senior Leah Bontrager wrapped up her Raven cross country career Saturday in the most fitting way, competing at the state meet at the Lakeside Municipal Golf Course in Fort Dodge.

Bontrager was a main stay on the big stage, qualifying for the event all four years. Each year her performance improved at state, culminating with her best finish in the 1A main event on Saturday.

As a freshman, Bontrager finished 72nd in Fort Dodge. She returned her sophomore season to finish 67th. As an upperclassman she made two big leaps up the standings. Bontrager finished in 52nd, a 15 spot improvement as a junior, and then wrapped up her career moving up 13 more spots last weekend to finish 39th in her final time in the maroon and black.
