Winning 8-player district 6 meant you could expect to see plenty of postseason recognition come the WACO football team’s way and that is exactly what happened with 10 Warriors receiving all district selections.

Jonah Clark headlined the squad being named defensive MVP of the league. The 6’2’’ 200 pound end anchored a defense that surrendered just 15 points a game. He tallied 43 tackles including 9.5 for a loss and reached pay dirt five times on the other side of the ball. The senior tells KCII Sports what this award means to him. “I really didn’t expect to get this to be honest with you. It means a lot. It makes me feel good that all that hard work in the offseason paid off.” Other defensive first team players included lineman Tyler Sutton, linebacker Drew Diers, defensive back Mason Miller, and utility Jon Rice. Sutton compiled 44 tackles, eight sacks, and recovered three fumbles. Diers led the team with 53 tackles and had two interceptions. Miller had the most picks in eight-player with nine and finished with 35 tackles. Rice had a pair of sacks and offensively he reached the end zone 12 times.

Offensive first team selections included running back Simeon Reichenbach and offensive linemen Tim Willits and Taylor Sutton. Sutton and Willits helped pave the way for the most rushing yards in the league with 2,774 and 50 touchdowns. Reichenbach did a bulk of the damage on the ground with 1,413 yards and 23 scores. Isaac Oswald was named second team quarterback. The junior completed 51% of his passes for 827 yards and 10 touchdowns without throwing an interception. Zach Schmitz received the golden spike award given to all district talent that was injured throughout the year. Despite missing the middle of the season, the senior still caught a touchdown pass and tallied 24 tackles defensively. Additionally, head coach Chad Edeker was named Coach of the Year for leading the first place Warriors.

WACO finished the fall with a 10-1 mark and their first trip to the quarterfinals since 2010.
