Over $3,000 was donated for 63 families in Washington County to have a holiday dinner at no charge last year, and organizers hope to have greater success this year with some changes to the program.
Washington for Justice is offering holiday meal kits again this December for families in need, and this year the group is not requesting reservations for the kits. Residents can simply come to the Mills Seed Building in Washington beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 11th to pick up a kit for their family or others they know would appreciate it, while supplies last. Bethany Glinsmann with Washington for Justice says they’d like to raise enough funds this year to “outgive” what was offered last year, “We want everyone to feel welcome here in Washington and offering these holiday meal kits is one way that we can work with the community to support our fellow members of the community and really make everyone feel welcome and supported especially around the holidays that’s a time of year that’s really special for everyone regardless of your income level. So helping all families be able to have that special meal is really important for us.”
Washington for Justice is asking for a $45 donation to provide a kit of ingredients for a traditional or Latinx holiday dinner, though Glinsmann emphasizes that any amount of donation is appreciated. This year’s program is also sponsored by Tienda La Morenita, Fareway, and Hy-Vee. If you would like to donate or volunteer, find information in flyer above.
