The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk girls basketball team wrapped up the preseason portion of their schedule on Friday with a Hall of Pride win at Mount Pleasant 65-58 in overtime. The Panthers controlled the action early, leading 27-21 at half and still holding a slim 41-38 lead after the third. The Golden Hawks continued to pull closer down the stretch, tying the game at 55 at the end of regulation. In the extra period, Mid-Prairie outscored the Panthers 10-3 to score the road win. On this week’s KCII Radio Coaches Corner, Mid-Prairie head girls basketball coach Danny Hershberger talked about what he saw from his team. “The girls did a great job of coming back all night. We had situations where we just had to keep fighting and keep coming and we did that fighting through adversity. It’s always encouraging to be able to put points on the board. The second half especially we started knocking down shots. It was good to have a competitive game against a good opponent with some late game situations we could work on live action. We did a great job executing in all aspects of the game when we had to. That was huge for our girls and huge for our confidence going forward.”
Mid-Prairie had a trio in double figures with Amara Jones leading the way at 21 points, Landy Pacha poured in 15 and Maddie Nonnenmann had 14 points. The win is the second of the preseason for Mid-Prairie who beat Albia last week at the Pekin jamboree 40-10 in one half of basketball. The Hawks open the season tomorrow night when they host Durant. You can hear all of the action live on AM 1380, FM 102.5 and KCIIradio.com, beginning with the Washington HyVee Pregame show at 7p.m. and tip off at 7:30 in Wellman.
