Washington County continues its weekly addition of COVID-19 deaths since the beginning of September, adding two in the past week for a total of 63.
Across Iowa 86 new deaths were confirmed this week, bringing the state’s total to 7,354. The 14-day average positive test rate increased in Washington from 5.6 to 5.8%, and from 9.7 to 10.4% statewide. The number of COVID-19 hospitalizations also increased across Iowa and in the southeast region, with the state moving from 544 last week to 623 this week, and the southeast region moving from 106 to 128. The state total of patients in the Intensive Care Unit increased from 123 to 146, while those in the ICU in the southeast region kept at 38. Of those in Washington County 52.7% are fully vaccinated, while for all Iowans 69% of those 18 and older are fully vaccinated, and 72% of those 12 and older have at least one dose. Those not fully vaccinated account for 75.1% of those hospitalized for COVID-19, and 85.6% of COVID-19 patients in the ICU.
