There was a lot to cheer about for the Columbus Community girls’ basketball program on Monday when they picked up their first win of the winter with a 48-43 road victory at New London.

The game was nip and tuck all the way through with the Wildcats holding a slight 10-8 lead after one and 23-15 at the break. Both squads scored nine points in the third and the Falcons (0-4) won the fourth 19-16, but it was not enough to breakthrough against the Wildcats. Columbus won the turnover margin by nine and out rebounded their opponent 30-22. Lily Coil went off for 17 points, forced seven steals, and brought in six rebounds. Libby White collected 10 points and seven rebounds while Aracely Garza managed eight boards.

Columbus is now 1-2 and they search for a win streak tonight at Wapello in a girl/boy doubleheader. The last time the Wildcats had multiple wins in a season was the 2017-18 campaign.
