Weapon charges were recently dismissed for an Ainsworth felon.
Thirty-nine year-old Nicholas Loren Nichols was arrested on charges of control of an offensive weapon by a felon, a class D felony, and assault while displaying a dangerous weapon, an aggravated misdemeanor. He was later charged with obstructing prosecution or defense, an aggravated misdemeanor. Court documents show Nichols pleaded guilty to obstruction and was given a suspended two-year prison sentence to be placed on two years probation. The weapons charges were dismissed, and Nichols must pay a $855 fine and 15% surcharge, and all restitution.
The charges stem from an April 9th incident when Nichols allegedly approached the victim outside their residence in the 100 block of Green Meadows Drive in Washington. He asked the victim if they threatened to kill his daughter, and displayed a handgun. Nichols then left the residence in a motor vehicle and the victim followed him while calling emergency services. He was observed leaving his vehicle and walking through Sunset Park. Law enforcement located Nichols on foot and upon searching the park they found a nine millimeter handgun wrapped in a t-shirt and hidden under a pile of leaves.
