It was a good night to be a Buffington on Tuesday in Winfield with a pair of Wolves’ basketball players leading their respective teams to Southeast Iowa Super Conference victories over Pekin.

Bradie Buffington put up 22 points to pace the WMU girls and helped them to a 54-20 victory over the Panthers. The junior was efficient connecting on 11 of her 13 shots, collected six rebounds, and four steals. The Wolves got it started early with a 21-2 lead after one and a 36-11 tally at half continued to grow in the final two quarters. The team shot 52% from the floor and Keely Malone was also in double figures with 13 points. Melina Oepping added nine assists and six steals.

Cam Buffington’s 31 point outing in the boys’ game was almost more than the entire Panther total with the Wolves cruising to a 60-39 victory. The sophomore hit 13 of 21 shots and brought in a monstrous 17 rebounds including 11 of them offensively. Abram Edwards registered 11 points, seven rebounds, and five assists. Outscoring Pekin 37-17 in the second and fourth quarters was the difference in the game.

The WMU girls improve to 3-0 and the boys start the year 1-0. They get back on the court tonight in Riverside against Highland.
