It was a fast start to the season for the Sigourney-Keota and WACO wrestling teams on Thursday when they opened with a five team meet at Montezuma.
The Cobras went a perfect 4-0 on opening night by defeating Baxter 60-24, Cardinal 72-12, Montezuma 70-12, and WACO 55-24. S-K went 29-8 in contested matches on the evening including 26 of those wins being pins. Cade Streigle won all four of his matches by three pins that totaled 2:06 and a 13-5 major decision. Cobras that picked up three contested match victories included Reanah Utterback at 106 lbs (fall 1:05, fall 1:25, 8-0 MD), Brody Clark at 120 lbs (fall :20, fall 1:15, fall :55), Dan McLaughlin at 132 lbs (fall 1:13, fall 2:21, fall 1:04), Reid Molyneux at 138 lbs (fall 1:12, fall :27, 3-2 decision), and Cade Molyneux at 160 lbs (fall 1:32, fall 1:37, fall :54).
WACO went 3-1 with their only loss coming to the Cobras, but they defeated Baxter 42-39, Cardinal 48-30, and Montezuma 78-6. The Warriors went 19-25 in contested matches with all 19 victories being falls. Two grapplers picked up four pins including Louden Huisenga at 152 lbs (1:00, 4:58, 3:51, 2:51) and Kris Boone at 170 lbs (:18, :17, 1:25, :36). Jonah Clark recorded three wins at 220 lbs (2:23, 4:40, 3:03).
