The first of two meetings of the winter between rivals Keota and Sigourney ended with a split between the basketball teams on Friday.
The Keota boys had the upper hand against the Savages for the sixth straight time with a 56-48 road victory. Sigourney used homecourt to their advantage for awhile with a 16-15 lead after one and a 31-28 count at the break. An 18-7 Eagle third quarter proved to be the difference in the eight point win. Evan Vittetoe led the purple and gold with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Sawyer Stout added 13 points and Cole Kindred was also in double figures with 10. Ethan Shifflett paced the Savages with 17 points and Levi Crawford had 14. Keota shot 50% from the floor compared to Sigourney’s 38% and they won the rebounding battle 30-26. The Eagles improved to 3-1 on the young campaign and the Savages dropped to 0-2.
The girls game was all Sigourney with the home Savages cruising to a 48-22 victory. Sigourney improved to 1-2 and Keota dropped to 1-4.
