It was a pair of heartbreaking single possession losses for the Keota basketball teams on Tuesday when they hosted Iowa Valley for a South Iowa Cedar League doubleheader.
The Eagle girls got the start they were looking for with a 13-4 first quarter, but the Tigers immediately answered with a 19-6 second to take a 23-19 lead at half. Keota stayed close the rest of the way against the undefeated Tigers (6-0), but came up short 42-39. Lydia Kreigel led Iowa Valley with 12 points.
The boys’ game followed a similar pattern with Iowa Valley leading by the slightest of margins at the break 32-31 and an even second half led to a 50-49 victory. The home Tigers were plus 12 in the turnover margin. Keota had three players in double figures with Evan Vittetoe recording 14 points and 11 rebounds. Sawyer Stout also had 14 points, Cole Kindred added 13, and Colten Clarahan dished out eight assists.
The Keota girls drop to 1-5 and the boys are 3-2. They get back on the court tonight hosting Tri-County.
