It was an emphatic end to the first half of the season Tuesday for the Sigourney basketball teams when they welcomed HLV for a South Iowa Cedar League showdown and the Savages got out the brooms in the doubleheader. 

The girls’ game saw the black and gold utilize a strong defensive effort for a 53-28 victory over the Warriors (1-9). Josephine Moore continued her red hot stretch going off for 25 points on nine of 15 made shots and she brought in 10 rebounds. The freshman recently was inserted into the starting lineup and has averaged 16.5 points in the last four outings. Carly Goodwin finished with 15 points and four steals while Rain Barthelman collected 11 points and six steals. They head into the the holiday break with a 4-5 overall mark and 3-4 in the SICL.

The Savage boys came out on a mission offensively against HLV (0-9) leading 28-15 after one and 46-21 at the break that led to a 77-55 final. The team shot 44% from the floor including 40% from long range and a big reason why was Karson Weber. The junior was scorching the nets for eight long balls on 11 attempts and he finished with a game-high 29 points. Isaac Bruns had 14 points off the bench, Levi Crawford added 11, and Bo Schmidt chipped in with 10 points and 13 boards. Sigourney assisted on 18 of 26 made baskets and with the win they improve to 5-3 overall and 4-3 in the league.
