Crew members of the USS Riverside are beaming down to look for assistance in making repairs to their ship.

The Riverside Area Community Club is continuing to reach out to community members to raise money for repairs to the popular attraction and parade float which has been a part of the Trekfest celebration for 36 years. Riverside Area Community Club member Kevin Guy says that the ship is in desperate need of upgrades “to boldly go” beyond its hometown, “It means so much to not just us here in Riverside but the entire world. If you think about the Star Trek franchise we’re seeing all over the world, we’ve had visitors from all over the world come to Trekfest. So it’s important to us for it to look good and represent our community well.”

With a goal of $50,000, the repairs needed include metal work and a paint job to the ship and trailer and fixes to the lighting system and smoke machine. Guy is unsure of when overhaul repairs were last made to the custom made float. He says that the ship will still make an appearance at this year’s celebration and that they hope to have the money raised by that time with all repairs made by June of 2023.
