A Des Moines woman will be tried next month for an August 2020 incident in which she allegedly dragged a Washington police officer with a stolen vehicle, fled, and then stole another vehicle.

Court documents show that 43-year-old Mary Bella Brooks’ right to a trial within one year expires on February 25th. Good cause has not been found by the state nor the defense to delay the trial any longer, therefore she must be tried on the last available date of February 8th. Brooks is charged with possession with intent to deliver more than five grams of methamphetamine, a class B felony; interference with official acts with a dangerous weapon, assault on persons in certain occupations with use or display of a weapon, two counts of second-degree theft, failure to affix drug stamp, and assault while participating in a felony, all class D felonies; interference with official acts inflicting bodily injury, an aggravated misdemeanor; and possession of a controlled substance first offense and unlawful possession of a prescription drug, both serious misdemeanors. KCII will bring you more information as it becomes official.
