Agencies responded to a person with a single gunshot wound Friday night in Washington.

Washington Police Chief Jim Lester says at about 8:10 p.m. the Washington County Communications Center received a 911 call from a male informing that he had been shot. Police officers located the victim at the intersection of South Iowa Avenue and East Monroe Street. Washington County Ambulance Service transported the victim to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. It was determined the shooting had occurred in a parking lot in the 600 block of West Adams Street.

An investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact the police department (319-653-2107). There is no threat to the public at this time. The police department was assisted by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Washington County Attorney’s Office, Washington EMS, Keota Police Department, Iowa State Patrol, Iowa Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Enforcement, University of Iowa Police Department, and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.
