It was a perfect four up and four down for the Sigourney basketball teams over the weekend when they swept a pair of doubleheaders on the road.
The Savage boys traveled to Colfax-Mingo (2-8) on Friday and utilized a strong 22-9 second quarter to propel them to a 60-41 win over the Tigerhawks. Ethan Shifflett led the team with 20 points, four assists, and three steals. Levi Crawford followed up a 30 point performance on Tuesday with a 14 point outing on Friday and Karson Weber also added 14. The momentum carried over into Saturday when they made the short trip to Packwood and emerged victorious over Pekin (3-7) by a 55-51 final score. They led 28-21 at intermission, 38-34 after three, and hung on in the fourth for the non-conference win. Crawford, Weber, and Isaac Bruns each had 13 points. The Savages improve to 7-4 overall and 5-4 in the SICL.
The Sigourney girls won a grind-it-out affair against the Tigerhawks (4-7) by a 45-40 count. It was 26-17 in favor of the black and golf at half and they hung on in the final two quarters in the low scoring bout. Sigourney forced Colfax-Mingo into 20 turnovers and to shoot just 21% from the floor. The Savages made it two in a row the next night against Pekin (3-7) by rolling 44-28. They improve their record to 6-6 and 4-5 in the league.
